Fiji Island Denarau

The Fiji Island Denarau is a 684-acre island located west of Viti Levu, the biggest island in Fiji. Denarau is a reclaimed mangrove island and is connected to Viti Levu via a small causeway. Denarau is within easy reach from Nadi, Fiji’s third largest town.

Fiji Island Denarau – transportation

There are several ways to get to Fiji Island Denarau. There is no international airport on this small island, but Nadi International Airport is within easy reach on nearby Viti Levu. Driving from Fiji Island Denarau to Nadi International Airport takes 20-30 minutes. There is also a well developed marina on Fiji Island Denarau, the Port Denarau Marina. It is open for both commercial and private boats. If you do not have your own boat with you, you can find plenty of cruise boats and speedy transfers in this marina. There is however room for private homes and enterprises as well, and quite a lot of people have today purchased vacation homes or permanent residences on Fiji Island Denarau. This means that instead of staying in a hotel or resort during your visit to Fiji Island Denarau, you can rent a private property if you prefer a more secluded life style without 24-hour room service. For golf enthusiasts, there is also the option of renting fully furnished golf terrace apartments.

Fiji Island Denarau – water activities 

In addition to simply swimming and sunbathing at the beach, you can for instance go jet boating, fishing, scuba diving or snorkelling. Jet boating trips can be arranged at the Port Denarau Marina. If you wish to find a scuba diving trip arranger, you can go to the Sheraton Resorts where Nadi-based dive companies have offices. Scuba diving around Fiji Island Denarau can also be arranged from other Fiji islands, since most dive operators have boast that will take you to dive spots of your choice. Fiji Island Denarau – golf and racquet

Denarau is famous for being home to the Fiji Island Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, one of the most popular golf and racquet clubs in the entire South Pacific. It boosts an 18-hole championship golf course, six natural grass tennis courts and four synthetic all-weather tennis courts. The golf course has a marine theme and has been created around tidal waterways. The bunkers are shaped like marine life and no less than 15 holes have water challenges. The longest hole is the par 5 14th at 516 metres while the shortest one is the par 3 17th at 158 metres. There are four exigent par-fives and 10 par-four, as well as four water-carry par-threes.
